Solid hardwood is milled from a single piece of wood, while engineered hardwood bonds a real wood wear layer over a layered core. The two respond differently to humidity, which matters in a home where the air conditioning cycles most of the year. Talk about the rooms, your climate control and the look you want before you settle on a species, finish or plank width.
Choose the rooms carefully
Hardwood suits rooms where moisture is already under control, such as living rooms, bedrooms, hallways and dining rooms.
